Michelangelo

The David
• In the year 1501, Michelangelo traveled back to Florence, where it took him two-and-a-half years to sculpt The David. He finished in the year 1504.

• Michelangelo used a large irregularly shaped piece of Carrara marble for this sculpture.

• When the sculpture was finished, it was decided that the best place to display it was outside on a platform in the Plazzo della Signoria. It took 40 men four days to move Michelangelo’s gigantic sculpture.
